Course Description

This course introduces first year students to the scientific study of human language , including its nature, functions, and structures, while providing foundational knowledge across major linguistic subfields.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the semester, students will be able to:

  • Understand and apply core linguistic concepts and terminology
  • Analyze language data using systematic methods
  • Recognize the relationship between linguistics and relevant disciplines
  • Develop critical thinking about language variation and change
