This course introduces students to the scientific study of language (linguistics) and the sound system of English (phonetics). It helps students understand what language is, how it functions, and how speech sounds are produced, classified, and used in communication. The aim is to build foundational linguistic awareness and prepare students for more advanced modules such as syntax, semantics, and phonology in later years.
